kojo pictures 2006
I created the styling for Kojo's DVD range, which started in February 2008, and all the key art for the retail DVDs.
In Australia the OFLC demands that their classification symbol fills a huge area on the front of the box, and this along with the marketing imperative for quotes, festival wreaths etc etc (not to mention the DVD slick's own inherent problems vis-a-vis size, sticking out on a shelf full of a million other dvd's...) means the scope for interesting design is more limited than with posters (but not impossible).
To aid both my sanity and the consumer collector, the DVD covers are double-sided, with the inners having a very consistent landscape format, uncluttered and spare, to emphasise the 'widescreen' nature of the films and allow scope for collectors to have at least matching spines when they turn the sleeves inside out.
