The Rejection Bin
A selection of unused work

I did millions of these. I loved the juxtaposition of the help button with the couple who look like they're dancing. It doesn't work at this stage, but a bit further and I reckon it could have been great. Still, check the film out - Steve le Marquand is incredible, and it's a golden rule of Australian cinema that films are only improved when Tom Budge turns up.

'Too Drew Struzan' was the verdict. 'It's impossible to be too Drew Struzan' was the plaintive, ignored response.

This was the original design for Macbeth, but although it's much cooler than the final version, the vector style confused some people. 'They'll think it's a cartoon' went the inevitable rejection letter. Movie-going Public, what you've long suspected is in fact true — they do think you're morons.

This has been hanging around this site for far too long masquerading as a proper poster. The distributor went instead with a photo of a female chest, which against virtually any design I can come up with, is like fucking Kryptonite.

Nice picture. Unfortunately it was too similar to the Opal Dream poster, plus, you know, more Joan Chen is never a bad idea. Everyone wanted to make the poster 'more Australian' as I had up to this stage been entranced by the whole Wong-Kar-Wai-ness of it all and was going loopy in flock wallpaper.

The Godfather part four. I actually had a different one I wanted to put here, but sadly it seems that 'had' is the appropriate word.

This would have been so great in amongst all the clutter of the movie listings in Spectrum. I remember spending two hours with the producer John Maynard one Friday afternoon, trying desperately to persuade him to use it, getting closer and closer to tears. He's made of sterner stuff than that, obviously.

Vrrroooooom. Level Up for nailing the message that the 'World's Fastest Indian' was about a bike, not a sub-continental runner, Game Over for No Tony Hopkins Big Head.

My usual subtle colouring in evidence here. Can you see the lion? Can you? See, hours of fun for all the family.
